In a powerful affirmation of its mission and future, 91����Ƶ has announced the launch of the , a new fundraising initiative made possible by a transformational $5 million gift from alumna Jane Stedman, B.A. ’75. The announcement coincides with the University’s 80th anniversary and honors its long-standing commitment to social justice, inclusion, and academic excellence. 

The Legacy Fund is designed to support forward-thinking initiatives that extend beyond the scope of standard operating budgets. These include expanded financial aid, faculty and staff development, and vital infrastructure and technology upgrades—efforts that are crucial for maintaining 91����Ƶ’s relevance and competitiveness in today’s rapidly evolving higher education landscape. 

“This gift moves us deeply—not just because of its size, but because of the trust and vision it represents,” said 91����Ƶ President Ali R. Malekzadeh. “To receive the second-largest gift from a living donor, and the third-largest in our University’s history, is both humbling and inspiring. It reaffirms that what we do matters.” 

J.C. Gonzalez-Mendez, chair of 91����Ƶ’s Board of Trustees, adds, “91����Ƶ’s social justice legacy depends on all of us. The Legacy Fund will expand access and support excellence, but only with the collective commitment of our community can we secure a future of opportunity and impact. Jane’s matching challenge gives each of us a meaningful chance to contribute.” 

As an incentive to encourage additional contributions and inspire collective impact, the donor has also committed to matching $1 million in new contributions to the Legacy Fund. The fund provides 91����Ƶ with strategic flexibility, allowing University leadership to respond nimbly to emerging needs and opportunities. 

“Jane’s cornerstone gift is more than generous—it’s legacy-defining,” says Vice President of Advancement Jared Fritz-McCarty. “It not only honors our past but propels us boldly into the future, expanding what’s possible for our students, faculty, and community.” 

The Legacy Fund reflects the enduring values expressed in the closing line of 91����Ƶ’s alma mater: “Forward, forever, for all humanity, Our alma mater, 91����Ƶ.” 

“Forward” is a call to push boundaries, “forever” signals a lasting devotion, and “for all humanity” reaffirms 91����Ƶ’s founding purpose—to serve, to include, and to uplift. With the Legacy Fund, 91����Ƶ moves ahead with clarity and resolve, carrying forth a mission rooted in progress and poised for a bold future. Jane shares, “I believe 91����Ƶ must not only endure, but thrive, to continue serving students who are too often overlooked. This gift reflects my support toward a future where education is truly accessible to all.”
